Volume 1 of The Things Our Fathers Saw® series begins in an upstate NY community, which LOOK Magazine designated as Hometown, USA for a 6-issue patriotic spread in 1944, a microcosm of every other small-town community in the country.

It starts with my quest for a young sailor's body, killed at Pearl Harbor, and follows our young men and women across the Pacific.

Over thirty survivors who fought from Pearl Harbor to the surrender at Tokyo Bay give firsthand accounts of combat and brotherhood, of captivity and redemption, and the aftermath of a war that left no American community unscathed. Includes maps, photos, and never-before-seen portraits. Here are the real stories that LOOK Magazine could not tell.

307 PAGES.

In VOLUME 8 of The Things Our Fathers Saw® series, you will return to the Pacific with our veterans as they recall the chaos in the aftermath at Pearl Harbor, the first challenges on land at Guadalcanal, island hopping with the Marines, Navy, and Army at the Marshalls, Marianas, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. You will witness the most horrific bonzai charges of the war, accompany airmen on their B-29 missions over Japan, and lean over navy corpsmen as they work to save the wounded.  374 PAGES.

Awesome content that must be pass down through the generations

Arrived promptly. Can't wait to read about the Pacific Theater. My dad served 4 years in the South Pacific jungle. Those soldiers went without food, water, and shelter. Mail did arrive or get sent for much of the time. My dad suffered from malaria and jungle rot on his legs. I can still hear his screams in his dreams. My mom had to hide in the bedroom closet during the nightmare or he could have killed her with his bare hands. As children, we were taught not to go into the bedroom if daddy was having bad dreams. My dad, like many soldiers, did not share much about the war.
He did share how he and his buddies were laughed at when they arrived off the boat in California. They were emaciated, sick, exhausted and confused. When they asked how much for an ice cream, nearby young men snickered. They had to ask how much to ride the bus. They were laughed at. No parades for this group. I am lucky to be born. My mom waited 4 years for him to return despite loss of letters or any contact. These soldiers went to hell for 4 years. Some made it home but mental and physical scars lasted a lifetime.

Excellent Collection for Every Historian

It brings the events of WWII to life. These books transport you to another time and another place. Well written first hand accounts. Almost as good as listening to these many veterans telling you personally their stories. What a treasure to have these memories recorded for future generations to learn from and not forget the sacrifices made. Thank you for your efforts in writing these volumes.

Book 1

My father never talked about his service years. When I read Book 1, I couldn't help feeling overwhelmed by what a 17 year old kid had to go through. I cried, I sympathized, and I realized what a hero really is!
